Avenue 52 - Coachella, California

This project constructed a grade separation on Avenue 52 spanning over the UPRR and Grapefruit Boulevard (a.k.a. Highway 111). The project constructed a 3-span, 348’ long overhead structure to accommodate an ultimate 6-lane corridor concept, widened Grapefruit Boulevard, and extended Sunset Drive to provide a connector road between Avenue 52 and Grapefruit Boulevard. The project included major utility relocations, drainage, MSE walls, pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalks, intersection improvements including 3 new traffic signals, and reconstruction of some commercial driveways.

Additional project features included:

  • New signalized intersections for safer, more efficient vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian movements.

  • Improved streets that are wider and include additional, safer pedestrian and bicycle facilities.

  • Improved drainage for more-effective stormwater and pollution control.

  • Enhanced visual impacts including aesthetic wall treatments, bridge pilasters, and ornamental lighting.
